The Simplishade Universal Composite excels at making the restoration process easier to perform reliably and to a higher standard. We'll be briefly detailing how the Simplishade decreases the amount of stock management you will need to perform, and empowers you to create excellent, durable, esthetic restorations.
From inventory management to placing, sculpting, and polishing, it’s difficult to overstate the amount of work which goes into a restoration and how easy it is to be let down at each of these stages by your restorative material. Slumping, sticking, poor polishing all can lead to complications.
Since there's many points of potential failure, new ranges of composites tend to try to improve the restoration process holistically, from start-to-finish. One of Kerr’s answers to this trend is the Simplishade Universal Composite, which reduces the stresses and potential points of failure of restoration, from stock management to procedure.
Before we start...
This isn’t our first time covering a part of the Kerr ‘Simplishade’ range. To learn more about the Simplishade Bulk fill, please see our blogpost on the matter. If you’d like to learn more about DD’s services, please see our news section, where you can read about our recent acquisitions, our upcoming sales such as 2024’s Black Friday sale, or any improvements we make to the DD experience, such as when we upgraded our temperature-controlled delivery network. Finally, we also write about events in dentistry, such as 2024’s oral cancer awareness month.
What is the Simplishade Universal Composite?
Simply put, it is a composite which reduces all sixteen classical VITA shades into just three - Light, dark, and medium. It’s designed to simplify your workflow when performing restorations. The Simplishade has excellent handling properties, great flexural strength, durability, and it can be used in all cavity cases without a blocker. This is a versatile, easy-to-use composite which helps to empower you to make excellent restorations.
A comparison could be made between the Simplishade and another of Kerr’s ranges, the highly acclaimed ‘Harmonize’ range. Harmonize garnered acclaim for its polishability, esthetics, and superior handling. The Simplishade range boasts a similarly high performance in these areas due to a key similarity, its use of Kerr’s Art3 technology.
What is Art3?
We’ve covered Art3 before, in our article on the Simplishade Bulk Fill, so we’ll keep this recap brief. Art3 is Kerr’s own blend of technologies designed to improve aspects of this composite for restoration. These technologies being ‘Adaptive Rheological Response Technology’, for sculpting, ‘Adaptive Color-Blending Response Technology’, for shade matching and aesthetics, and ‘Adaptive Shrinkage Stress Response Technology’, for durability.
Standout features -
From esthetics to ease of use, the Simplishade Universal Composite range excels in most clinical cases while alleviating strain on inventory and aiding smooth restorations.
Here are some of its benefits -
Easy to handle, easy to sculpt
With the simplishade’s ‘Adaptive Rheological Response Technology’, its viscosity will actively reduce if it’s being manipulated after application. This gives it a creamy consistency without stickiness, which is fantastic for easy extrusion, handling, and shaping. This malleability is intended only for when the material is being handled and will not impact the restoration’s strength after light curing.
Excellent blending
The Simplishade uses unique nanofillers which mimic natural enamel structures, which means light interacts with the composite in a similar way as it does with ordinary enamel. Additionally, the composite has excellent translucency, which helps it to enable seamless blending.
Effortless shade matching
As previously mentioned, the simplishade allows you to accurately match all 16 VITA classical shades with just 3 shades. Meaning you need to purchase fewer shades to remain fully stocked, and don’t need to worry about watching barely-used shades languish, unused in your inventory.
Here’s a list of which Simplishade variants match which VITA shade.
Light - A1, B1, B2, C1, D2.
Medium - A2, A3, C2, D3, D4.
Dark - A3.5, A4, B3, B4, C3, C4.
Durable restorations
This composite's durability is enhanced by its use of Adaptive Shrinkage Stress Response Technology, a combination of low-shrinkage resin and nanofiller design to provide enhanced durability. The resin-infused nanofillers boost elasticity and provide stress relief, while a special coating eases interfacial stress, helping to improve marginal adaptation and integrity by decreasing composite restoration stress on the adhesive layer. This gives the Simplishade its excellent loading strength of 81%, and improved resistance to chipping and fracture.

Fantastic polishing ability
Simplishade has a smaller particle size of 50nm, meaning it’ll maintain good glossiness over time and polish to a high lustre.
Superb Radiopacity
Under a radiograph and at 300% AI, the simplishade is almost twice as radiopaque as its competitor, listed as ‘competitor A’.
Option for whitened teeth
In addition to its three standard colours, there’s also a ‘bleach white’ option, which allows for optimal blending on whitened teeth.
No blocker necessary
You can use the Simplishade in all cavity cases without the use of a blocker, potentially making the restoration process more comfortable for your patient.
Rapid light curing
Light curing for light and medium shades only takes 10 seconds. For dark shades, light curing takes 20 seconds.
